Discussion Questions:
1. Discuss how health policy initiatives are used to guide and direct your clinical practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
2. Please locate the Medicaid eligibility criteria for 3 different states. Compare and contrast the eligibility criteria, then discuss the implications of the criteria for people in each state.
As an Advanced Practice Nurse, I am guided by health policy initiatives in my clinical practice. These initiatives help to shape the care that I provide to my patients, and ensure that I am up-to-date on the latest evidence-based practices. By staying informed of these initiatives, I am able to provide the best possible care for my patients and help to improve the overall health of my community.
Some of the specific health policy initiatives that guide my clinical practice include the Affordable Care Act, the Institute of Medicine’s Recommendations for Nurse Staffing, and the National Quality Forum’s Quality Measures. I make sure to keep up-to-date on these initiatives so that I can provide the highest quality of care possible for my patients.
In addition to staying informed of health policy initiatives, I also make sure to consult with other healthcare providers when making decisions about patient care. I believe that it is important to get input from those who are on the front lines of care in order to make the best decisions possible. By working together, we can ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.
The Medicaid eligibility criteria for 3 different states are as follows:
1. In California, Medicaid eligibility is based on income and family size. The maximum income limit for a single adult is $16,105, and the maximum income limit for a family of four is $33,534.
2. In Texas, Medicaid eligibility is based on income only. The maximum income limit for a single adult is $3,669, and the maximum income limit for a family of four is $7,602.
3. In New York, Medicaid eligibility is based on both income and assets. The maximum asset limit for an individual is $14,100, and the maximum asset limit for a family is $28,200.
Each state has different Medicaid eligibility criteria, so it is important to consult with your state’s Medicaid office to determine if you qualify for coverage. If you do not qualify for Medicaid in your state, there are other options available to help you pay for your health care costs. You can contact your local social services office for more information about these programs.
