I have never been so blatantly disrespected at an establishment. Both general managers—especially Julia (I’ve already filed a formal complaint)—exhibited appalling behavior that should never be experienced by a customer. We came for my sister’s 21st birthday. As she had just turned 21 that day, there was no time to go to the DMV and get a horizontal ID. The restaurant doesn’t accept vertical IDs so we showed a picture of her passport (we don’t bring our passports to Benihana). Our sweet waitress accepted this.
Julia, the manager, then walked out only to berate us for “not understanding the policy” and used a tone of voice that I have never been met with via a customer service representative. They could have very easily said “I am so sorry but we can’t accept her ID :(.” No, she was rude, a know-it-all, and completely unprofessional—the most immature interaction I’ve had with a woman over the age of 30. We will not be returning to this establishment. This woman should not be allowed to work in customer service.
If you want a miserable individual to treat you like an imbecile and disrespect you at your sister’s 21st birthday AND not have her allowed a drink—this is the place! I’ve received better customer service in a McDonald’s drive through. Oh, and the food was the worst I’ve had at any Benihana—I’m sure she told him to give us a poor experience 🙂 They then proceeded to stand next to our table for the entirety of the dinner and clearly talk about us. Thanks for ruining my sister’s birthday, Julia !
