Which music rocks your world and why?
WHAT MUSIC ROCKS YOUR WORLD ?
Thought I would change the pace and see what type of music you dig. if you read my screen name then you can probably guess who my fave is ( DIO ) Ronnie james Dio- may he rest in peace. absolutley brillant performer and a great human being. had the privilage of meeting him and it is a memory I will allways cherish. beyound that I jam to any old school metal( can’t stand new stuff though- i’m 50 and sometimes an old dog don’t want to learn new tricks. also dig classic rock such as journey, heart, styx, etc. also still like the “hair metal ” being a socal guy the L.A. scene in the 80’s was crazy cool. so tht’s what I dig, how ’bout you all ?
P.S. sorry for any typos , I am a two fingered typer ( even though I have all 10 ) when it comes to this key board most times I feel like fred flintstone beating on a rock
As a guitar player (bass too) Sabbath is awesome. Jimmy Page is my biggest influence with Iommis dark riffs helping
Newer stuff, Parkway Drive, Chevelle, Mastodon, Emery, Tool.
I like my metal T)
Thrasher (LOLz)
I love Techno. Right now the new dubstep stuff is really high quality stuff. Musically it’s something very new and enjoyable. If you want an example of high quality and creative dubstep check out UKF Bass Culture album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC58-DYyKRs <—- amazing music
I can tell ya, being an 11 year guitarist, a retired bari sax player, currently a working musician, I listen to almost everything. Sorry in advance but Im going to type bands and music off the top of my head. John Coltrain, Charlie Parker, John lee Hooker, Gerry Mulligan, Megadeth, Metallica, Creed, Alter Bridge, Led Zeppelin, Journey, The Eagals, Trivium, Slipknot, George Benson, Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Halestorm, Paramore, Robert Johnson, Killswitch Engage, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, ZZ Top, The Killers, The Black Keys, huey lewis and the news, Paul Gilbert, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The temptations, Paul Gilbert, Staind, Jimi Hendrix, Bee Gees, Andy McKee, Breaking Benjamin, and I just drew a blank so yea thats all off the top of my head.
I knew i should have started a similar thread when i thought of it, but hey: the important thing is that it gets started at all. 🙂
Anyway, music has since i turned 13 meant a great deal to me. I’m from Sweden and in my youth the only places i could hear new music was from friends – and i lived in the countryside so that wasn’t much of an option if you didn’t want to ride a bike long ways – from scouring record stores – and as i only was 13, so that wasn’t an option either – or finally: the radio!
Radio in Sweden in the early 80s wasn’t that bad actually, but since we only had one channel to fit all music, there were only like half hour shows once a week so my trusty tapedeck got a lot of use. 😉
Anyway, i have always felt grounded in this experience and think that is why i appreciate so much different music: i like everything from singer/songwriters like Josh Rouse, Amos Lee to real fast old hardcore like Minor Threat to pop to punk to…you get the picture.
One band though that’s always been with me and probably always will is The Ramones, as my nick probably hints of.
They were one of the greatest, not only for the pioneering music they wrote, but also for all the influences you can trace from it.
Joey – who always have a special place in my heart – was the romantic, that loved all that 60s pop and wrote quite a few songs that would have done well if released in 1965…and possibly been produced differently. 😉
Listen to this, one of my favourites that never even got an official release cause Johnny, the dictator in the band, hated it since it was just a simple popsong…and thats why i love it: Ramones – S.L.U.G.

Or maybe one of there greatest lovesongs? Danny says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Aerah72IEI
I love bands that when you dig just a little deeper and cast away all your beliefs find…pretty melodies.
Misfits was one of those bands and thats why the went that big: deep down there was brilliant melodies but of course, they had one of the best voices at the time: Glenn Danzig. 🙂
But then on the other hand, i always liked music that was a little…off.
Fad Gadget – Love Parasite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yEYV3ohJu4
The Normal – Warm Leatherette: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5QErPDNcj4
Spit For Athena – Afraid of me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8caEGBETcec
Tom Waits – Underground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciBAMhLiwyQ
Hrm…well i think i should quit while i’m ahead, so to speak. I could go on a couple of days with this otherwise. 😉
