· What are the top five themes from your Signature Themes Report?
1. Empathy
2. Responsibility
3. Harmony
4. Arranger
5. Competition
· Describe a challenge that you faced and how you used two of your top strengths to take action and reach a desired outcome.
Over the past few years, I have taken a lot of pride in transforming a cancer center that is focused on the patient.
This was a big culture change for those that worked under previous management as the focus was geared on the task of treatments and the staff delivering them. I believe my mindset reflects my top two signature themes: empathy and responsibility.
Cancer has hit my family hard over the years and as I watched family members receive their care I began to think of my patients as my own family. Treating them like they were my father or grandmother and showing empathy for not only my patients but their family members as well.
It was a big change that it is not about me at work it is about the patient and giving them the best care possible. I have a responsibility to step up to the plate and change this way of thinking and how we operate as a department.
This was no easy task but eventually staff either shifted their actions to align to patient-focused or ultimately the staff member figured out this was not a good fit for them and left.
· How can you use your strengths to help you be successful in the MPH program? Provide at least two specific examples.
I am confident that these strengths will help aid in my success within the MPH program.
I am built for carrying added on responsibility. Using my strength of arranger, I am sure I can shift work/life balance to also include school/work/life and still be successful. This will take dedication to trying to stick to schedules so that not one area gets over-looked in the process.
Secondly, being responsible will also work in my favor for being successful in this program. I do extremely well with working ahead. Just because you never know what lies ahead.
Children can get sick, work could have needs that pop up and by working ahead this will allow me to dedicate time ahead of schedule so that if things pop up unexpectedly, I am prepared and do not need to play catch up.
· How can you use your strengths to help you reach your goals as a public health professional? Provide at least two specific examples.
As a wife, mother, manager I am confident in my arranging skills, thus why it was my top theme. Life changes, and we must be able to adapt to all kinds of situations. Perfect example was when COVID-19 hit. No one seemed to have all the answers, but we rolled with the punches as more and more information came out, we changed our practices.
In addition, as healthcare workers we found ourselves with limited staff and limited supplies, which we have not even fully bounced back from yet. Yet, we put forth efforts out that we did not even know were even capable of. It truly shows if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish just about anything!
In addition, to the changes that COVID-19 brought us, our small community hospital has been acquired by the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. By becoming part of such a large enterprise, the sky is the limit in career opportunities! This is where the competition side comes in to play! I want to be prepared for a career change and excited not only to be a part of such a great organization but be able to grow with them!

Public health professionals have always been an integral part of our society, and their roles are only expanding as we move further into the 21st century. In 2030 and beyond, public health professionals will be responsible for a variety of new and innovative roles in order to improve the health of our population.
Some of these roles include working with communities to create healthy environments, providing education on preventative measures, and working with lawmakers to create better policies around healthcare.
We must also remember that public health is not just about illness prevention – it is also about promoting wellness and helping people live their best lives.
I believe that one additional goal that should be added to the next Healthy People update is “Living a Healthy Life” – this goal would encompass all aspects of public health, from illness prevention to promoting wellness.
